Punu Mask

This unusual Punu mask of lightweight, light-coloured wood displays a black-dyed, finely lined hairstyle with a high central crest  as well as with two short plaits at the side. Also dyed black are the slit eyes that seem so ‘Japanese’.
Scarification marks are present on both cheeks and forehead. Quite unusual is the long column-like neck.

Expected surface wear with scuffs, chips, abrasions commensurate with age and use. The wood has developed a warm patina resulting from age and use.
